The fact that I’m seeing so many people post about WardrobeGate tells you exactly what is wrong with the state of the journalism and social media today. The fact that I’m blogging about it after not posting anything in months tells you that I’ve reached my tipping point.
I think it’s fair to say that First Lady Michelle Obama looked spectacular in her $6,800 jacket that she wore to Buckingham Palace to meet the queen.
This jacket has been a source of contempt from the right wing. Did she pay for it herself or did we, the taxpayers pay for it? Does it really matter? Mrs. Obama was officially representing the United States of America at an event at Buckingham Palace with the Queen of England. Did these idiots want her wearing a $45 K-Mart jacket?
The point is the right wing found their retaliation for criticism aimed at Ann Romney for a $990 shirt she wore for an appearance on CBS This Morning back in May. This shirt apparently caused an outrage by the media and the left. The claim was that Mitt and Ann Romney are out of touch with the American people because ‘how many Americans can afford a $990 shirt?’
I ask, how many people complaining about (or defending) the $990 will ever appear on television? It’s a non-story. The bigger story is that it appears Mrs. Romney overpaid for the shirt by about $985.
The Romney’s have money and Ann spent $990 because she wanted to look good for her television appearance, as would we. The problem wasn’t the money; it was a hideous fish shirt.
Or was it a bird shirt? It had no wing and no gill. If we can’t tell whether it’s a bird or a fish, then the designer of this shirt needs to find a new profession.
And if Ann Romney paid $990 for THAT shirt, Michelle Obama’s $6,800 jacket was a bargain.
